July & August Update

Welcome to summer which embraced us with its hot breath and seems to be holding us in the sweltering vibrations of heated nights. Nonetheless, windows spring wide open; laughter fills the musty air as children play from morning till night squeezing every waking moment magically. In summer we reveal ourselves as the obscure heat dazzles, and creatures hide from the red-eyed sun. We take our stand and wait for the cool breezes to free us from sweat bound leathery; we wait like Newton under the apple tree, Buddha under the bo or like pelicans soaring inches above the salty waters awaiting a chance to dive deep into the cooling waters for their feast. Summertime blues may leave us in contemplation knowing that every live thing is a survivor on a kind of extended emergency bivouac. But at the same time we are also created. In the Koran, Allah asks: "The heaven and the earth and all in between, thinkest thou I made them in jest?" It's a good question. What do you think of the created universe, spanning an unthinkable void with an unthinkable profusion of forms? Or what do we think of nothingness, those suspended reaches of time in either direction? "God is subtle," Einstein said, "But not malicious." Again, Einstein said that "nature conceals her mystery by means of her essential grandeur, not by her cunning." So, summer is here for us to enjoy every moment and to create magical memories - for this time will never come again and it too will become traces of memories. We pray your summer days are birthed anew, and you take time to renew, rejoice and rest. Do take time to celebrate your indepedence, freedom is a privledge!
