YOGA ETIQUETTE 101
This is your yoga – an inner journey and exploration of self realization. Our commitment is to maintain a peaceful, supportive and safe center and our wish is for everyone to have the best experience possible. Please follow these simple guidelines while attending classes at Om Shanti.
Signing-In
- Please sign in at the lobby desk before class starts.
- Tuition fees are logged into the Student Log Book.
- Find your Student Log in the log book (filed alphabetically by last name) and pull it out of the book.
- Sign the log
- Date of class i.e. 2/15.
- Please list payment i.e. check # - amount or cash - amount.
- Day/time of class i.e. Sat. 9:15 prenatal.
- If you can’t find your Student Log, please inform your instructor.
- If your student log is full, please inform your instructor.
- Place signed log into the file box.
- Fees are dropped into the Tuition Box.
- Pre-registration is required for Series Classes. The non-refundable payment is required in Full on or before the first class session unless upfront agreement has been discussed with our instructors.
- New Students are required to fill out Student Registration and Waiver forms, please read them carefully. Partners cannot use the same form; we need a form per student.
- New Students, please arrive at minimum 15 minutes prior to class to allow time to fill out the forms and get acquainted with the protocol. Our instructors will give you a quick tour of where to get props and entrance into the Asana (exercise) room.
Respect for the Studio and Space
- Please enter the Asana (exercise) room through the Main entrance via the meditation room.
- Hang your coats up on the Hall Tree in the lobby or place them with your shoes in the shelving area.
- Turn off cell phones and pagers before entering the center.
- Remove your shoes prior to entering the Asana (exercise) room and store them respectively on the shelves.
- Do not turn lights out in the Asana Room. If the lights bother you, our instructor can dim them, but we need to see you, to assist you.
- Roll mats out quietly and resume your position quietly; your intention for your yoga practice begins the minute you walk in the door.
- Be obedient to your thoughts with respect and gratitude first and foremost for yourself, thereby drawing that same energy to you and to your practice.
- Water is provided for your convenience. Do Not bring water cups into the Asana room to avoid spilling.
- When putting props away, please stack them neatly (fold blankets, re-roll straps, roll mats (do not fold them) and return everything to their proper place.
- Please consider bringing your own mat and towels if you sweat a lot and dry off the floor around you if you drip sweat onto the wood.
- Please do not use center blankets, props, or eye-pillows without a towel if you are perspiring.
Class Etiquette
- Be on time – if you are late, enter Quietly and please avoid sharing why you’re late.
- If you need to leave early, inform the instructor Before class and position yourself and your belongings toward the back of the room and leave quietly through the Back - door.
- Move your mat to make space in crowded classes – we can always make room.
- Take a moment to meet the person next to you.
- No chewing gum in class.
- Your pose may not look like everyone else (its not suppose to – everyone is unique).
- We provide a non-competitive environment – be supportive to others.
- Please ask for assistance if the pose does not feel good (you’re not here to hurt).
- Discipline comes from commitment to self.
- Breathing yields your resistance to allow for flexibility.
- Breathing assists your ability to tolerate which allows for balance.
- Breathing encourages the body to hold a pose for strengthening.
Guidelines
- Yoga classes are drop in unless they are part of a series.
- Please wear comfortable attire; avoid over baggy clothing, it will get in your way and make it difficult for the instructor to see if your body is in proper alignment in postures.
- Please arrive 5 – 15 minutes before class to insure the full class time and to allow for an uninterrupted session.
- New Students – arrive 15 minutes prior to class to fill out paperwork.
- Eat 2-3 hours before class.
- Prenatal classes eat light snack 1 hour before class.
- Always inform your instructor of any health concerns prior to class.
- Refrain from perfumes, oils, body sprays and lotions – people are allergic; be considerate.
- Please observe basic hygiene when attending yoga class – make sure your feet are clean and fresh.
